Why are we talking about ear plugs to combat tooth grinding?

Because they really help!

We would like to introduce Cerezen; a new and innovative way to treat a host of temporomandibular joint issues including jaw pain, bruxism, grinding, clenching and headaches.

Cerezen are small, hollowed out, custom made devices that you insert into the opening of your ear canal. Their innovative design enables you to wear them discreetly, and still hear as normal, but elevate the symptoms associated with TMJ problems.

What is TMD?

Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is a problem affecting the ‘chewing’ muscles and the joints between the lower jaw and the base of the skull.
It’s been estimated that up to 30% of adults will experience TMD at some point in their lives.
The condition itself isn’t usually serious, but the symptoms can cause patients a lot of discomfort and can significantly lower quality of life.

So how do ear plugs affect your mouth?

Ears and teeth are connected via the joint at the corner of the jaw which is known as the temporomandibular joint. The ear canal sits right behind this joint and when you clench your teeth, the ear canal contracts slightly. So when you have Cerezen in place, the canal tightens up around them. It’s not enough to be uncomfortable, but enough to encourage the jaw to relax.

How will I know if Cerezen can help me?

We usually recommend Cerezen to anyone who has already tried all the usual methods of relaxing their jaw. If you’ve already tried different mouth guards, splints, and relaxation techniques, then it may be time to try Cerezen.

What are the benefits of Cerezen?

  • You can wear them 24/7
  • They won’t affect your speech
  • Helps alleviate pain associated with your TMJ, including jaw pain, headaches and neck and shoulder stiffness.
  • Will stop you from grinding your teeth which can cause tooth wear and fractures, leading to the need for further dental treatment.
  • Virtually invisible and won’t affect your hearing.

If you think Cerezen could be an option for you, please give us a call and book in to see one of our dentists. A few of our nurses have tried Cerezen with amazing results, and we’ve had great success already with our patients.
